The elderly politician was detained in hospital at the beginning of January for injuries and assaulting dogs at his home 22 December last year and underwent surgery.

President John Magufuli has reportedly reported the death of Elder Kingunge's death and said he was a contributor to the struggle for independence in Tanzania and after independence became a loyal minister of the Tanu and later CCM.
